Welcome to Gary Holt Pottery.

I've been a studio potter in Berkeley, California for over 30 years. An early and strong interest in Asian ceramics has combined over the years with an equally strong interest in abstract painting, and gradually I've evolved a way of working that includes elements of both. You'll probably see evidence of this progression as you look at the past and present examples of my work on this site, particularly in the pieces done with water-soluble metal salts.

You can also see work at my studio in Berkeley, which is open every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and you can purchase select pieces from the gallery page here on the website by either emailing or calling me at (510) 527-4183.

I also maintain an extensive mailing list. Those on the list will receive email and/or postcard notices of yearly studio shows every May and December, plus special events and workshops throughout the year. Please visit my News & Events page for updated information.

For information on how I use some of the remarkable effects of water-soluble metal salts on my translucent porcelain, visit my Soluble Salts page.

The Biography page has a brief story of my background and influences, and several examples of work done over the past thirty-five years.

In the studio contains information on the physical layout of my shop, tools, and work procedures.

News will give you dates and descriptions of the two or three workshops I try to do each year at my Berkeley studio, as well as information on any workshops in other parts of the country.

And to contact me directly with questions about arranging for me to give a workshop, adding your name to my mailing list, or visiting my studio at a time other than my regular Saturday hours of 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., just click Contact.
